The short version: we collect what Rove needs to work, we do not sell your data, and you can delete your account and take your information with it.
1. Who we are
Rove is run by Hilal Kanaan and Mokhtar Nasser, two students in Lebanon, trading as individuals rather than as a registered company. Our address is Sharhabil main road, next to HHHS high school, Saida, Lebanon, and you can email us at hello@rovelb.com. We are responsible for the information described here.
2. What we collect
We do not collect your location. The app never asks for location permission. Map pins are placed by the lister, and walking times are calculated from the listing's own pin to a campus.
We do not track you across other apps or websites. There is no advertising SDK in Rove, and no App Tracking Transparency prompt, because there is nothing to prompt about.
We do not see your WhatsApp messages. Tapping the WhatsApp button records that a tap happened; the conversation is between you and the lister, inside WhatsApp.
If the app crashes, we receive a technical report — what went wrong, where in the code, and which device and app version it happened on. It is not tied to your account, and we strip out your name, your device's name, and anything you typed before it sends. We use it to fix the crash, nothing else.
3. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
We use these service providers to run Rove:
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to investigate fraud, abuse, or a safety risk.
What listers can see about you: your name and profile photo, and your phone number only once you choose to contact them over WhatsApp. Listers cannot see your saved homes, your searches, or any report you file.
What students can see about a lister: name or agency name, photo, and their active listings. A lister's phone number is never shown publicly — the WhatsApp button opens the conversation without displaying it.
4. How long we keep it
- Your account information: until you delete your account.
- Listings: while they are up, plus a version history we keep internally so we can answer questions about what a listing said, and when.
- Notifications: read ones for 90 days, everything else for at most 180 days, after which they are deleted automatically.
- Reports: kept after they are closed, so a pattern of complaints about the same lister is visible.
- Usage records (views, WhatsApp taps, searches): kept as aggregate business records.
5. Deleting your account
Profile → Delete account, inside the app. This deletes your account and your personal information. Some records that are not personally identifying — for example that a listing was viewed on a date — remain in our aggregate counts, and a listing you posted may be removed along with your account.
6. Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email hello@rovelb.com and we will answer within 30 days. You can edit most of it yourself from Profile.
7. Security
Access to data is enforced in the database itself, not only in the app: every table has row-level rules that decide who may read or write each row. Traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you if a breach affects you.
8. Children
Rove is for university students and is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, email hello@rovelb.com and we will delete it.
9. Changes
We will update the date at the top when this changes, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
